Celebrating the 4th of July in Sweden ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐ŸŽ‰

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY USA

I learned that most all countries have a "National Day" or "Independence Day", but don't really know when any of them are except for the USA and Chile.  Chile because my son-in-law, Marcelo Muรฑoz is from Chile and we celebrate their independence from Spain on September 18th.

The National Day of Sweden๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช, is celebrated (or not) on June 6th.  Apparently, no one really celebrates, they just have the day off and school is out.

Marion Wyss, one of my Workaway partners, is from Zermatt, Switzerland and they have Swiss National Day ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ญ on the 1st of August.  They celebrate with fireworks, family get-togethers and big bonfires!

Marta Mattiazzo, a Workaway partner from Venice, Italy, celebrates Festa della Repubblica ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Italian National Day or Republic Day on June 2nd.  It commemorates the official referendum to decide the form of government following the 2nd World War and the fall of Fascism.  They have parades with bands and Marta remembers marching in the parade when she was in the 5th grade singing the anthem.  They also put out their flags.

Liva Poriete, a Workaway partner from Latvia ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡น, celebrates Latvian Independence Day on November 18th with parades, fireworks and family time.

The Day of German Unity is the national day of Germany ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช, celebrated on October 3rd as a public holiday.  It commemorates the anniversary of German reunification of 1990.  My host, Heike is from Germany.

I prepared a fairly typical 4th of July dinner for my Swedish family; barbecue chicken, corn on the cob, cucumber and tomato salad, deviled eggs, potato salad and flag cupcakes for dessert.  Here are some pictures of our celebration!
