Back to Delhi and home to US!!!

Back to Delhi and the Aster Inn

India Gate - a memorial to the Indian Army and the soldiers who died in various wars.

The Red Fort - I saw this but did not have time to go in.  It was constructed in 1648 by Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan as the palace of his capital.

 Post Script and trip review!

I loved my visit to India, G Adventures is a great way to travel, our guide, Adi was excellent and added a lot to the trip.  He also made us feel very safe with him.

The Taj Mahal was definitely my favorite site!  We went to so many beautiful forts and temples.  On the day we left Agra to go back to Delhi, the tour group was chanting...'No More Forts!!'

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was overwhelmed by the trash all over India and can't understand why it is allowed to happen...why are there not regulations to stop dumping and littering?  Why don't the citizens have pride in their home, neighborhood and town?  My friend, Mary Lane Malone stayed in a home in Jaipur and she said the woman of the house would open her front door and throw out trash😫 ... I just don't get it!
In many cities, we saw pigs openly wallowing in the trash.  This is in the street, not a trash dump!
It was very common to see cows also digging and eating in the trash.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

All over India, there are stray dogs, millions of them.  They are scroungy, mangy and flea-ridden.  I could have taken a million pictures!  Broke my heart!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Of course you know there are cows everywhere!  No one owns the bulls, but the cows are owned and even though they roam the streets during the day, they go home at night!!  The cows are sacred in Hinduism.  They aren't used for meat, but their milk is used.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The traffic in ALL cities is unbelievable!!  There is NO WAY to describe it, it is insane!  Cars, taxis, tuk tuks, motorcycles, rickshaws, cows and people all trying to get somewhere at the same time.  Every vehicle is honking, ALL THE TIME, the noise level is disturbing.  After I got hit in Udaipur by a motorcycle, I was literally terrified to walk in the streets, but I didn't really have a choice, there are no sidewalks.  My fellow travelers said I had PTSD....and I did!!!

Indira Ghandi International Airport - very beautiful airport!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The flight to London Heathrow Airport was 9 hours.  I had a 23 hour layover, so I got a hotel in the airport terminal.  It was called Yotel and it was small but really comfy.  The bedding was luxurious and I think having the layover really kept me from having such jet lag when I got back to Washington, D.C.
Yotel
Arrived home safely on Monday, October 24th.  Home Sweet Home!
